How I Work in Therapy
Anxiety Treatment
Therapy Style
I’m caring, empathic and non-judgmental.
I offer a gentle approach, always taking your unique needs and desires into consideration in my work with you.
I know that you might be nervous about entering counseling. Many of my clients have seen therapists in the past and have not achieved the success they desired. If this is you, it’s especially understandable that you might be wary of seeing a therapist again.
Because I am an anxiety specialist, with a proven approach to treating anxiety, I’m confident that I can help you get relief from your anxieties.
As long as you participate actively in therapy, you’ll be working towards reducing or eliminating your worries and fears.
You can be assured that I’ll prioritize our relationship so that you feel safe and in control of the therapy process.
We’ll work in a structured yet collaborative way, breaking down your goals into small reasonable steps, making them easier to attain.
Therapy Approach – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy / Exposure Therapy
I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach known as Exposure Therapy. Research shows that CBT/Exposure Therapy far surpasses the effectiveness of other therapies. It has over 6 decades of research supporting its efficacy.
CBT/Exposure Therapy shows you tools to help you become your own therapist. You’ll learn a framework and skills that you can do on your own long after treatment is over.
Exposure Therapy involves gradually exposing you to the things causing your anxiety. The method is done safely and slowly so that you always feel safe and in control.
The process of Exposure Therapy re-trains your brain to no longer feel threatened by things that trigger feelings of fear, anxiety and panic for you.
Eventually, Exposure Therapy leads to reducing or eliminating anxiety, fears, guilt and shame.
How CBT Exposure Therapy Works in 7 Steps
- We begin by discussing your anxiety and how it shows up in your life.
- We work together to identify the precise cause of your worries and fears.
- We discuss strategies that have worked in the past to relieve your anxiety. We also discuss what you’ve done that has not helped reduce your anxiety.
- We develop a treatment strategy based on Exposure Therapy, so you can work towards alleviating feelings of panic or a general sense of worry, fears and phobias, or anxiety about your health.
- We progress step-by-step, setting a pace that you’re comfortable with, incorporating your input along the way.
- You’ll start incorporating the strategies you learn in therapy into your day-to-day life. This process can help you overcome your debilitating anxiety so you can focus on living your life.
- We’ll create a plan to help you continue to have relief from your anxiety after therapy ends.
